How to compress a PDF or image

  1. Add your files

Drop PDFs, JPEG, PNG or WebP images onto the page, paste them, or pick them with the file chooser. You can add many at once.

  2. Pick a compression level

Small, Balanced and High quality cover most needs. Custom lets you set the exact image quality and a maximum width or height.

  3. Download the smaller files

Each file shows how much smaller it got. Preview images side by side with the original, then download one file or all of them as a ZIP.

Questions about compressing files

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using Web Workers. Your files never leave your device, so it is safe to use with private documents.

Which file types can I compress?

PDF documents and JPEG, PNG and WebP images.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no sign-up and no watermark.

How much smaller will my files get?

It depends on the file. Large photos and PDFs full of scanned pages usually shrink the most. Documents that are mostly text are already compact and may barely change.

Why did my PDF only get slightly smaller?

PDFs are first cleaned up losslessly and their embedded images are recompressed. If that saves less than 10%, you can choose Rasterize, which turns each page into an image. That makes scanned documents much smaller, but the text can no longer be selected or searched.

Will compression reduce image quality?

Some quality is traded for size, and you control how much. Use the preview to compare the compressed image with the original before downloading. Transparent PNGs are never converted to JPEG, so transparency is kept.

Should I convert images to WebP?

WebP files are usually much smaller than JPEG or PNG at the same visual quality, and every modern browser supports them. Leave the option off if the images are going into software that only accepts JPEG or PNG.

Can I compress many files at once?

Yes. Add as many files as you like and download them individually or together as a single ZIP file.
